What Consists of "Your Own Work"

To clear up any confusion over what consists of your own work versus copyright infringement, we have some examples for you.

In general, if you are modifying an image enough to make it different, it is not copyright infringement but is in fact your own work. For example, you are allowed to find images of Pluto and use them in your pumpkin. You cannot, however, just slap it on your pumpkin and call it a day. You must modify or change the image enough to make it unique and your own. Because Disney is a huge part of this site, we are allowing the use of all Disney images with the above outlined condition. For all other art (such as Hello Kitty, Bugs Bunny, etc) you must use original art created by yourself.

Good Examples (Do this!):

The above image used a combination of at least 5 different images to create something brand new. This is a great example of digital art photomanipulation.

The above is another example of Mickey Mouse modified to be unique and new, using at least 5 different images combined to make a new one.

Bad Examples (DO NOT DO THIS):

The above, while funny, is a good "bad example" of what not to do.

Another good "bad example" would be many of the signatures you find across the site. In particular my (Captain-Heather) signature is a good example of what not to do. All I did was find an image of Pluto and slap my name on it. This is a no-no for creating unique, original art!

If you are ever unsure if your image is different enough, please don't hesitate to get a second opinion and ask one of us staff!

OTHER INFORMATION

After further discussion, we decided that you can shrink the template size down, if you need to. We realized that many traditional artists don't have access to a scanner, so photos of their pumpkin will look smaller than the digital artists who are able to keep the larger size.

Please use your best judgement! If you shrink your pumpkin down to some incredibly tiny size, it won't be allowed in the competition. If you want to run by us the size you are shrinking it to, please do!

We HIGHLY encourage you to keep the original size of the pumpkin!

ACCEPTABLE IMAGE SIZES
3300 x 2550 px (original size)
2500 x 1932 px
2000 x 1545 px
1500 x 1159 px
1000 x 773 px
750 x 580 px
Sizes between the original and smallest listed here are OK if kept proportional

Pumpkins smaller than 750 x 580 px are most likely going to get you a PM asking for a larger resolution size. Sizes in between full-size (3300 x 2550 px) and the smallest listed size (750 x 580 px) are OK, we mostly want you to maintain proportions when you shrink the pumpkin down. DO NOT make it some long/tall/skinny/fat combination. Those will be automatically disqualified. If you are unable to figure out how to maintain proportions when shrinking your pumpkin, use one of the guidelines I posted just above this paragraph.

Please ask if you have questions!
