Gif making?

What programs do you use for gif making?
Most of the tutorials I've found use photoshop/cs which I don't have, so I was just wondering if there were alternative programs that worked as well!

(Or free photoshop download links as the ones I've tried haven't worked too well )

I make them with Photoshop but you can make them with gimp by using layers and there's an animate option somewhere in there. Just mess around with the toolbar.

Yes. It's the easiest way and Photoshop is one of the best image editing software.

Honestly if you're just looking for a quick way to make a gif off of a video or something, you can just use the zscrn.us screenshot program. It has a gif feature where you just select the region and then stop it whenever you want. The program will automatically render and upload your gif.
