i'm not one for violence but i mean if things are really bad and the government is blatantly disregarding the well being of its people then it shouldn't be a question whether nor not you should fight back

Starting from an ideal world, this would be unnecessary as the government should reflect the will of the people.

Of course, we're not in an ideal world.

I believe that the right of revolution is justified only as long as is necessary for the original goal of the revolution. So in the case of the American Revolution, the original intent (as far as I know) was to receive representation in Parliament that was proportional to the amount of tax paid by the colonies. I think that the war was justified from the perspective of the colonies only because Britian failed to recognize them (again, to my knowledge) in Parliament at any given time. Had that not been the case, and Britian had recognized the colonies, our goals would have been met and bloodshed past that time would be needless.
