Paying for Followers

So I guess it is a fairly common thing now to pay money for Instagram/Vine/Twitter/etc followers.
What are your opinions on this?

Personally, I think this is crazy dumb. Who cares how popular you are on a social media site? Not only that, but if you /were/ to be popular on a social media site, wouldn't you want it to be authentic?

I don't know... people are weird.

If it's for a business or musician/actor/artist it makes sense. The more followers you have, the more people you have checking out your service/product/etc. and the more people you have seeing your name in the recommended feed. It's a smart business move.

Regular people? Eh, kind of dumb, but to each their own.

I'm honestly more impressed that people have figured out ways to cheat the system, and give out 10,000 followers for $59.99.
