Things Becoming Rare?

The way they eventually became rare, was that some people early on in the game were able to get certain items.. and maybe a year later, you wouldn't see that item roaming around as much, and you would consider it 'rare'.

Same thing can happen with any game, but it just takes time for something to become rare.. right off the bat isn't necessarily calling it 'rare'.

..Hope that helped a little!

Things that were released for a short time were considered "rare" a few months from then, when not as many people had those items.
Now what people dont understand, is that anything can become "rare". In the beta stages, nothing will really be rare. But once those items are no longer released in the future of the game, and the game has a higher player base, those items will become less and less popular, thus becoming "rare".

Much better explained than my explanation, thank you Krista!

It doesn't even have to be scarce. It can be demanded. If there are more demands than supply, the item is rare.

Also with HOST events, ride events, holiday items and items with low amounts gain rarity over time. There are plenty of ways to keep some items rare, I just hope they use some of VMK's ways to do so.

How did things necessarily become "rare" on the original VMK? And how do we implement the same system (unlike OVMK) into this?
When the beta period in VMK ended, certain items were no longer available for players to buy (such as green flips, specific colors of furniture, etc). Those items became known as "beta," which is certainly rare.

Other items were only sold for a short period of time, so limited numbers of those items were sold. Over time, those became rare because of the influx of players.

Other items were called rare, but weren't. Those stayed "rare" for some people because the demand was always high for them. The Pirate Quest items are a great example of that - at one point they were truly rare because they weren't available and only a small number of people own them. When they became available from Disney Parks cards...sold with pins, then the rarity of those items was significantly reduced. However, because of their demand, they were usually called "rare" by players.

On VMK, the term "rare" came to mean that an item had a high value. The term "beta" came to mean that that items was both rare and in high demand.
