What is the story of Shrunken Ned?

Just wondering, how did Shrunken Ned become Shrunken Ned?

Hmm. I know the jungle cruise ride at WDW has several references to jungle headsmen. The ride also has loads of puns throughout. I think Ned evolved as a shrunken head character from the jungle cruise ride with a punny name. Shrunken Ned...shrunken head....

That's just my guess though

I have always loved shrunken ned. I never paid attention to his minigame next to jungle cruise (in Magic Kingdom) but always stopped by to reminiscence about VMK. Now I can have daily fun with shrunken ned while I get my credits!
